E-safety words of wisdom

In Year 9 PSHE, students have been asked to look at E-Safety and ways in which they can be safe online. They have looked at what it means to be trolled, what Cyberbullying is and how students can be kept safe from this whilst using the internet.

Some Year 9 classes were asked to produce presentations on this that could be delivered to younger year groups.  In one of Miss Park’s classes, some of the students - Luca, Adeeb, Harshit, Chris and Joel - produced an excellent presentation, and were asked if they would be happy to deliver this to KS3 and this is what happened this week! They presented to the whole of the year group and gave invaluable advice relating to how to stay safe online. They started by giving the year group information about the dangers of too much screen time and how they should plan their day to have screen time free periods- whether this in certain time slots or in certain places. One suggestion was to never have a screen in the kitchen, as this will allow you to always talk to people whilst eating!

Year 7 were given invaluable advice about how to Be Smart online (related to a Childnet campaign), and also to THINK which is an acronym to help them think about what they post online. The Year 9s then gave Year 7 the invaluable opportunity to ask questions about E-Safety with the Year 9 students providing guidance about how to limit screen time, what to do if they think there is ever an issue online, and more importantly gave advice on how to use the internet to get the most out of it.

The Year 9 students demonstrated an impressive level of confidence when they were delivering this assembly, and it is clear that Year 7s really engaged with and listened to the advice that they were given. Well done again to Luca, Adeeb, Harshit, Chris and Joel!
